Day one: Transfer to Mountain Rwenzori national park

Rise up early and take morning cup of coffee, after breakfast our company guide/drive will transfer you to Kasese. Drive through Kampala capital city to western Uganda with beautiful view of green vegetation, tea plantation and local homestead. You will have lunch from Fort Portal town and after proceed with the journey to Kasese, arriving late in the afternoon, check-in at the hotel and after head for Kasese town tour. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as you prepare for tomorrow hike.

Duration: 7 hours’ drive

Day two. Nyakalengija (1648m) to Nyabitaba hut (2654m)                  

Start your day with morning cup of coffee and get your climbing equipment and our company guide will drive you to Rwenzori mountaineering services(RMS) head offices early for briefing and arrange for guides, chef and porters. The hike starts from Nyakalengija 1648 m to Nyabitaba hut 2654 m. the journey from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba hut takes a distance of 10 km which is equivalent to 4-5 hours’ hike. The start of the hike is smooth at the beginning passing through trail which goes through homes and fields through elephant grasses, dense bushes and tall trees. You will climb over rocks and bluffs, crossing river mahoma then ascending steeply into Nyabitaba. Expect to spot some wildlife as the white colobus, blue monkeys, three horned chameleon and Rwenzori turaco.  You will have first stopover at Nyabitaba hut where you will have an overnight stay.


Day three: Nyabitaba (2651m) to Johnmaate hut (3505m)

Have morning breakfast and embark on the climb from Nyabitaba to Johnmaata hut. You will set off following the trail that goes through the forest for a half an hour to the kurt shaffer bridge, just below the confluence of mubuku and bujuku rivers. You will hike for a couple of hours passing through the bamboo forests, here you will release that the hike has become more difficult, kind of like spelunking, traverse through along and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rocks. You will proceed with the hike to Nyamileju rock shelter where you will view Mt. Stanley and speke, if the weather is clear. At this point you will be passing into the zone of giant heather, lobelia and groundsels. Finally, you will reach Johnmaate hut after passing the tiring bog. When in Johnmaata hut, you have higher chances of viewing mt. Stanley and margharita glaciers. The hike takes 5-7 hours walk and later you will have dinner and overnight stay at the hut.

Day four: Johnmaate (3505m) to Bujuku hut (3900m)

After morning breakfast, embark on the hike from Johnmaate hut to Bujuku hut. The trail drops down to cross the bujuku river and enters lower bigo bog, the home of giant lobelias. the bog is easily crossed because of board walks. continuing on to upper bigo bog you will follow the bujuku river that sometimes runs underground from lake bujuku. with views of Mt. Baker to the south and mt. Stanley to the west. Bujuku hut well located in the shadow of Mt. Baker and mt. speke is set in a narrow valley below stulman pass. The hike takes 3 hours walking from Johnmaate hut to Bujuku hut. Diner and overnight at bujuku hut.

Day five: Bujuku [3900m] to Elena hut [4541m]

Rise early and your chef will prepare hot cup of tea for you and after breakfast, potters will carry the luggage and you will proceed with the hike from Bujuku hut to Elena hut. You will follow the trial that takes you through more bog, steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical groundsel gully as it ascends to scott-elliot pass at 4372m.  Take the right trail which will lead you to Elena hut and Mt. Stanley. Upon arrival at Elena hut you will relax as you wait for dinner and overnight.

Day six: Ascent to the snow-capped Margherita and descend to Kitandara hut

Here comes along waited day of your hike. After breakfast set off with the hike to summit of margharita the highest peak of Uganda and the hike takes 5-6 hours walk depending on the weather conditions and speed of the hikers. You will pass over the glaciers, slippery rocks, icy and exposed areas till you reach the summit. Enjoy the photo session at the highest peak and descend to Elena hut where you will have lunch. After proceed with the hike passing through the Alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders. Descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara for overnight stay at Kitandara hut (4020 meters). The hike from Elena to Kitandara hut takes 3 hours.

Day seven: Descend to Guyeoman hut

Take early morning breakfast and start off with journey to Guy Yeoman hut (3505 meters). We will have a picnic lunch on the way and continue descending with views of DR Congo and Mt. Stanley. The hike takes 5-6 hours and dinner and overnight at Guyeoman hut.

Day eight: Descend to Nyabitaba hut

Having woken up early enough in time to grab a warm cup of tea. Descend to Nyabitaba hut, hiking through steeply slopes along the Mubuku River and joins the original route near the Bujuku River to Nyabitaba hut.  The hike takes 4-5 hours before arriving at Nyabitaba hut where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day nine: Descend to Nyakalengija  

Being your last day in the mountain, you will have memorable cup of coffee early in the morning. Embark on the hike to the starting point and report directly to Rwenzori Mountaineering Services where you will be awarded with certificates. You will find your tour guide waiting to receive you. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day ten: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe international airport

Here comes finally day of our 10 days’ safari in Rwenzori mountain national park, take breakfast and embark on the journey back to Kampala/Entebbe international airport. You will have lunch enroute and proceed with the drive. Drop off at the hotel or Entebbe international airport to catch up with the flight back home.
