DAY 1: ARRIVAL ENTEBBE AND KAMPALA CITY TOUR
Your Akita wild tours guide will meet your flight at Entebbe airport and take you to your hotel in Kampala. The drive will take an hour. There are 3 hotels in Kampala to choose from, the Kampala Sheraton, the Kampala Serena or the Munyonyo Resort Hotel. After checking in and taking some lunch, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you on a brief city tour of Kampala. This can include a number of cultural and historical sites such as the Rubaga and Namirembe Cathedrals, the Kasubi Tombs of the Buganda Kings etc. Your AKITA WILD TOURS guide can go over a list of the attractions in Kampala, and you can design your own tour, based on your preferences and interests.
Dinner will be at your hotel.
DAY 2: ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY AND MURCHISON FALLS
After breakfast, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a 2-hours’ drive from Kampala. Here you will be able to track the rare Southern White Rhinos; the only place in Uganda where you can observe rhinos in the wild. At Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary you will also be able to observe many different bird species while on the nature trails that are available.
Before leaving Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you will have lunch in the Garden Restaurant. After lunch you will proceed on to Murchison Falls National Park. As you enter the Park Gates, you will continue on the road to the Top of Murchison Falls for a viewing; after which you will cross the Nile River to the Paraa Safari Lodge. Here you will check in for the night and be served dinner.
DAY 3: GAME DRIVE AND ALBERT NILE BOAT CRUISE
After an early morning breakfast, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you on a Game Drive on the tracks in the park. You will return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you to the jetty in time for the 2 PM launch cruise which takes 3 hours to view the famous Murchison Falls, at the head of the Fajao Gorge. Along the way you will see many Hippos, Nile Crocodiles, Elephants, Water Buffaloes and Giraffe; a large variety of large mammals come daily to the river for the drinking in the heat of the day.
Your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will return you to the Lodge for dinner.
DAY 4: FORT PORTAL
After breakfast, you will take the 7 hour drive from Murchison Falls National Park to the town of Fort Portal in Western Uganda; some 100 kilometers from the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. En route you will cross the escarpment where you will have excellent views of Lake Albert, with the Rwenzori Mountains in the background. Lunch will be in a Ugandan restaurant, which will enable you to taste some local dishes.
When arriving at Fort Portal, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you directly to your accommodation; either the Mountains of the Moon Hotel or the Primate Lodge, where you will check in and relax after the day-long drive. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
DAY 5: KIBALE NATIONAL PARK AND CHIMPANZEE TRACKING
After an early morning breakfast, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you to the Kibale National Park headquarters to register for your Chimpanzee Tracking. This amazing hike, where the Chimpanzee will find you as you march through their forest takes about 4 hours to complete. Here you will not only observe the Chimpanzee, but no doubt they will come and join you on your walk, possibly even holding your hand as you move along the path. After your Chimpanzee encounter, you will return to your hotel for lunch.
After lunch, your company guide will take you to one of the local villages for a Community Walk, where you will have an opportunity to meet and greet some of the local people that live in the forest. You will be entertained with local dances and music by the traditionally-dressed artists, as well as being shown the crafts they produce and taste some of the local food they prepare.
You will return to the Hotel for dinner.
DAY 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK AND GAME DRIVE
After breakfast, your company guide will take you on the 3-hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will proceed directly to the Mweya Safari Lodge, which is located on a peninsula surrounded by the Rwenzori Mountains. You will have lunch at the lodge and relax for a couple of hours enjoying the beautiful views from the lodge.
Your company guide will take you later in the afternoon on a Game Drive through that section of Queen Elizabeth park, where you will most certainly find many of the traditional ‘safari’ game that roam the African plains.
You will return to the Lodge for dinner.
DAY 7: GAME DRIVE AND KAZINGA CHANNEL BOAT CRUISE
After an early breakfast, your company guide will take you on a morning Game Drive, the best time to see ‘a kill’, as this is when the animals are hunting for food. Lunch will be served at the lodge.
After lunch, your company guide will take you to the Kazinga Channel for a 2-hour Boat Cruise. As you pass through the Channel that runs from Lake Edward to Lake George, you will see hundreds of animals bathing in the water and sunbathing on the shoreline; there are water buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, elephants and even the odd lion, if you are lucky.
You will pass the Kazinga Fishing Village, which has over 1000 inhabitants; here you can see their simple homes by the river shore, as well as the fleet of fishing boats that they use to earn their living.
After the cruise, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will return you to the Lodge for dinner.
DAY 8: ISHASHA SECTOR AND BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, your company guide will take you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a 5-hour drive. As you leave Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will pass through the Ishasha Sector of the park and look for the tree-climbing lions. You may be fortunate enough to encounter other wildlife as you pass through the park and many birds that live in Queen Elizabeth Park.
Immediately arriving at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you to either the Mahogony Springs Safari Lodge or Gorilla Mist Camp, which ever you prefer. Both are ideal locations, with beautiful vistas of the forest and surrounding mountains. Dinner will be served at your Lodge.
DAY 9: GORILLA TRACKING AND COMMUNITY WALK
After an early morning breakfast, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you to the Park Headquarters to register for your Mountain Gorilla Tracking. You will be assigned to a specific Gorilla Family and a park ranger, after which you will begin your search. Depending on the location of the particular Gorilla family that you are tracking, it may take a few hours to encounter them. The Gorillas are roaming the forests for food and re-locate constantly. The lodge will therefore pack you a lunch, as it is uncertain how long you will be gone; this food must be eaten either before or after your encounter with the Gorillas, as you are not permitted to eat in front of them. You are permitted one hour observing and photographing the Gorillas, after which you will reunite with your AKITA WILD TOURS guide, who will then take you on a Community Walk to meet up with some local people. Your encounter with the indigenous people will give you an opportunity to see how they live, earn their living and see their tools, as well as taste their foods. Local dancing and music will be performed for your entertainment, as well as seeing their crafts and artwork that they prepare.
Before dark, your company guide will escort you to your Lodge for dinner.
DAY 10: LAKE BUNYONYI BOAT CRUISE
After breakfast, your company guide will take you on the 4-hour drive to Lake Bunyonyi, considered the most beautiful lake in this part of Africa. You will be taken to the Arcadia Lodge, where you will have your own cabin surrounded by the magnificent forest, overlooking Lake Bunyonyi. You will have lunch at the Lodge.
After lunch, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will take you for a Boat Cruise on Lake Bunyonyi. Here you will get an opportunity to visit a few of the beautiful islands in the lake, meeting the indigenous people, hearing their oral stories and fables. The vistas from the water of the surrounding areas are breathtaking.
You will return to the Arcadia Lodge for dinner.
DAY 11: KAMPALA
After breakfast, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will start the 7-hour journey back to Kampala. You will take lunch en- route in a Ugandan restaurant to flavor some local food.
When arriving in Kampala, you will check in to your hotel; the choices are the Sheraton, the Serena and the Munyonyo Lodge. Dinner will be served in your hotel. After dinner, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will
take you on a tour of Kampala nightlife; there are many clubs, bars and music venues to choose from; Kampala comes to life in the night and is most enjoyable.
DAY 12: KAMPALA CITY TOUR AND ENTEBBE
Depending on your outbound flight time, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will either take you directly to Entebbe Airport, or if time permits, you can have a second tour of Kampala and/or Entebbe. There are huge markets to visit, as well as craft exhibitions; giving you an opportunity to possible do some shopping for souvenirs or crafts. When the time is appropriate, your AKITA WILD TOURS guide will escort you to the airport.
